ἀλήθεια — aletheia
Truth, but not merely truth as spoken; truth of idea, reality, sincerity, truth in the moral sphere, straightforwardness: truth
Guilt so often makes us hide though guilt itself cannot be hidden. Adam and Eve tried though, they covered themselves with leaves and hid from God.
In their shame, it must have slipped their minds that it is impossible to hide from one who sees and knows all things. In this fragile, fearful moment, he asks them why they hide.
They deflect, telling the partial truth that they are ashamed of their nakedness. God is a God of truth though and he will not be lied to, nothing can be hidden from him but he seeks their confession first, rather than accusing them outright.
With a little leading, it all comes out, the edges ripped with blame. Adam and Eve stand naked before a holy God and confess that they have risen up against him to overthrow.
