ἀγάπη — agape
Love, as that of God or Christ to us and our love to Him and to our fellow creatures: love.
All was lost — or so it seemed. Mankind had sinned and now they found themselves cut off from God and cast out of his presence.
But there are stars even in the darkest night and though he cannot stand sin and must exercise justice, God is loving. Adam and Eve’s fig leaves are hardly sufficient covering so he makes them proper clothes from animal skins. It was a picture that they could not have understood, a faint shadow of a day when a Lamb would be killed to cover all our shame.
God loved them in more than just provision for their physical needs though. He gave then something far more important: a promise.
