ἀνάστασις — anastasis
a rising again, resurrection
Here, the glorious climax of the tale! If you thought the unexpected and impossible had already happened, you were mistaken.
Death died that day. Yes, our great Hero laid down his life but he took it back up again. He was born for this and death had no hope of ever holding him.
The debt had been paid by his sacrifice. By his death, God’s wrath was satisfied and the death that is the consequence of sin cannot touch us anymore. Not only will our bodies rise one day but the souls of believers are already raised again.
Even better, Christ fulfilled his promise from the garden, as we shall soon see.
