πνεῦμα — pneuma
- What distinguishes a living from a dead body, the life principle.
- The Spirit of God: spirit, breath, wind.
After Jesus rose from the dead, he ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father. Yet the God who would not abandon us to our sin, would not leave us to flounder once he’d made provision either.
When he went, he gave the gift of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the trinity. By his grace, our Hero, recognising that we are helpless in and of ourselves, not only saves us but puts his Spirit in us to open our eyes and ears and to give us new understanding and new life.
Now, if we repent and believe, we have God’s Spirit in us to teach, comfort, and guide us and to make us more and more like Christ.
