Racism is very real and very wrong but the church is getting sidetracked. But being woke changes nothing, it is the gospel that changes hearts and mind.

In Defense of Brotherhood
"He calls everyone brother, it's so weird." "I hardly know her and she calls me brother." "I find it so weird that he calls people brother, we're not American." I'd never heard a man call another man brother in real life until a good few years after God brought my family into the Reformed church. … Continue reading In Defense of Brotherhood
Mony a Meikle Maks a Muckle
My mother says that sometimes, being Glaswegian and all. I think I may petition for it to become part of the jargon of the Church. Of course, a muckle is preferable to a meikle but a meikle is better than nowt. For those who aren't familiar with this age-old phrase, here is a translation: ~ … Continue reading Mony a Meikle Maks a Muckle
Why I Love the Church That Raised Me
** Sorry that I haven't written in a while, it's been busy and I'm a little out of practice** My parents never intended us to end up in the church we belong to now. We went to visit and were unwittingly spellbound by a depth of teaching we'd never known to be possible. Sure, … Continue reading Why I Love the Church That Raised Me
Searching for Rahab
One of the things I love about the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew is verse five. This random woman pops up, not even Jewish. Not only was she a gentile though, she was a prostitute originally too. But there she is in the family tree of the Messiah no less. Her name is Rahab. x … Continue reading Searching for Rahab
5 Misconceptions About Independent Churches
I am currently finishing up a degree in Theology and if I've learned anything in my four years here it's that people just have no clue about independent churches. It makes for fascinating but frustrating conversation. This is not a heartbreaking account of Scottish church history with its splits and counter splits, it is a guided glimpse into the deepest, darkest, least explored corner of Everyone Else.
To All The Lovely Young Gentlemans
To the Lovely Young Gentlemen with whom I am delighted to be acquainted, Listen up lads, there's something we need to tell you: Thank you. Your mothers raised you right. We girls often complain about how hard it is not to be a feminist and how we get made fun of or even pitied because … Continue reading To All The Lovely Young Gentlemans
Dear Sir
Dear Sir, My friend and I knocked on your door and you told us that it is the younger generation that we should be telling about God. I completely agree with you. When I look around at my generation, it breaks my heart. School friends constantly show off images of their wild nights, proudly displaying … Continue reading Dear Sir
Join the Lark Side? (and Happy Easter!)
We're technically on holiday so I wasn't gonna bother writing this week but I saw this in the bird hide in Wigtown Harbour and it really tickled me so I thought I'd share it with you. We went for a walk after visiting the Baptist Church. If it wasn't that I'm overly conscious of how … Continue reading Join the Lark Side? (and Happy Easter!)
